Lisa Dwan to star in 40th anniversary television performance

Not I, the ground-breaking monologue written by Irish avant-garde playwright Samuel Beckett, will return to television.
Marking the 40th anniversary year since the play received its European premiere and with full permission from the Beckett estate, the new recording will be performed by critically acclaimed actress Lisa Dwan and will form part of an exclusive hour-long documentary ‘Samuel Beckett: Not I’.
It will be broadcast on Wednesday 31st July at 9.30pm on Sky Arts 2 HD.
The documentary, will introduce viewers to the history of Beckett’s short one-woman piece and take a look at the importance of his work and the recitals of it.
This is only the third time in 40 years that official permission has been granted for a performance of Not I to be filmed for UK broadcast.
The programme will include behind-the-scenes footage of Lisa preparing for her sold-out run at The Royal Court Theatre, London which took place in May 2013.
Lisa’s performance marked 40 years since The Royal Court Theatre first held the UK premiere of the monologue. Her performance received rave reviews including five stars from The Guardian which described it as “an extraordinary experience” and “completely immersive.”
The Financial Times agreed calling it “hypnotic” and The Daily Telegraph added that “Dwan’s is a dazzling technical performance.” [Read More]
