Turning a New Leaf: Chapter's Summer Redevelopment

Chapter Arts Centre

Back in November of last year I mentioned that Cardiff's Chapter Arts Centre had announced plans for redevelopment in the summer of 2008. Well, the summer is now upon us and Chapter have been forging ahead, true to their word.

Amazingly, it appears that it's almost business-as-usual at the centre. The cafe and bar are still fully operational in one of the adjacent buildings, and the box office and shop have also moved to a new location. One of the two cinema screens still offers a wide and extensive range of films for the months ahead, although naturally there have been some limitations to the schedule.

In August, work on Cinema 1 shall be complete, and efforts will focus on Cinema 2 to create 'one of the best small-screen viewing experiences in Wales'. If all goes to plan, both screens will be refurbished and back in action towards the end of the Autumn.

The theatre offers a full programme for the summer months, and will move to another location on-site sometime in November. From December the theatre will witness a massive overhaul and full-refurbishment, and by March 2009 the theatre, the foyer, entrances, frontage and both cinema screens will be open to the public with a brand new programme of events.

You can keep up-to-date with all the new developments online at Chapter's official website, from a schedule of upcoming events, to a photo-blog charting the redevelopment building works. It's all looking very exciting at the moment, and I'm looking forward to finding out what the future will bring.
